What makes MySite.co.za so affordable?

MySite.co.za is able to offer real value-for-money web hosting because of our highly automated system. We give our clients a large amount of control over what they can do with their own domain via our control panels. This leads to us having to do less support, and as such we are able to pass the cost savings back to the customer. In addition, we do not operate a call centre - if we did, we would have to charge a lot more for our services. Our servers are also hosted internationally, where bandwidth and disk space are much more cost effective.

I wish to transfer my website to MySite.co.za - Do you provide assistance, and what are the steps involved?

MySite.co.za does not physically assist in the transferring of websites on the client's behalf, but can advise on the basic processes involved. We strongly suggest that you contact someone with I.T experience to assist you if unsure.

(1) Firstly, you will need to select a hosting package with us, and sign-up. Click here for our packages

(2) Then you will need to create a hard copy of your website offline (if you don't already have one).
This can be done by copying / downloading all the files comprising your website from your current hosting provider with an
FTP Client (such as FileZilla), or (if available) by means of a "backup" facility on your current provider's control panel.
(3) Next, if applicable, export any databases that you may be using. This can be done with phpMyAdmin (if available).
(4) Record all the email addresses that you use with your website.

(5) Once you have a full copy offline, upload your website via FTP to your new web space that you have with us.
(6) If applicable, setup any databases needed via your new control panel, and then import them via phpMyAdmin.
(Note: You will need to adjust any code referencing the databases to utilise the new usernames and passwords etc.)
(7) Setup your email addresses via your new control panel.
(Note: You will need to wait until your website dns has changed to ours and fully propagated before your emails will work,
also you will need to adjust any email clients such as Outlook, to utilise the new usernames and passwords etc.)
(8) Test your website via your temporary web address: http://the.nameservers.ip/~yourusername/
(* Note: If you use absolute urls in your website, you will need to wait until your website dns has changed to ours,
and fully propagated for them to work)

(9) After propagation (usually between 8 - 48 hours), test your website in full via its permanent address, including all emails.
(10) If you are satisfied that everything is running smoothly, then you can contact your previous hosting provider to cancel your hosting with them.

Please note that MySite.co.za in no way takes responsibility for clients wishing to transfer their domains.

What is bandwidth?

In website hosting "bandwidth" describes the amount of data transferred to or from a website (or server) within a prescribed period of time, which is usually a month. Another more specific phrase used is "monthly data transfer". For example: each time a web page, image, or piece of information is loaded by someone viewing your website, or when you send an email, or when you upload or download files, data transfer is generated. Each of our hosting plans include a generous amount of data transfer which should be more than enough for most sites, with the majority of our customers never reaching the data transfer limit of our larger plans.

What do I do if I run out of bandwidth?

In the unlikely event that you run out of bandwidth, you can do one of the following:
(i) Upgrade to a larger account (ii) Wait until the next month when your bandwidth quota is reset, or
(iii) Top up your account with an additional 500 mb for R50 (+ VAT). Additional bandwidth is to be consumed
within the same month.

Can any unused bandwidth be transferred over to the next month?

No. Our quotas are reset at the beginning of each month.

What is disk space?

Disk space is the allocation of server hard disk or drive space, usually measured in megabytes, where your website is stored and connected to the internet. This space is used to store your website files, images, email, databases, etc. Anytime you upload something to your website, or receive an email (prior to downloading), then you are consuming a portion of that quota.

What do I do if I run out of disk space?

If you run out of disk space you will need to upgrade to a larger account.
